In this watercolor class, we’ll spend each day with one color from the rainbow, learning how to mix all shades related to that color from brights to those tricky neutrals and soft hues by a systematic creation of color charts. Then students will put what they’ve learned to use by doing some fun color mixing challenges. By the end of the course, we’ll have started them on a life-long journey of mixing the colors they see with confidence!
This is a fine art class and we’ll be working with hues that I use in my own painting practice. Students will learn how it’s possible to create nearly every color they need all from a basic set of colors. By learning how to confidently mix the colors they’re seeing without all the guesswork, students will produce more clean colors and accurate values resulting in stronger and more beautiful paintings.
All supplies are provided for in-person classes.
Classes will take place at my home in Horseheads New York and I will send you the full address after you’ve registered.
If you miss a class, during the following class I will give any handouts that were given and catch students up on the concepts they missed. Refunds are not given for missed classes.

Watch my livestream to get a little taste of our class as I demonstrate how I get all my shades of green with just Viridian and a few other colors.
Supplies for Online Classes
You can find all supplies at Hobby Lobby (get help from an associate) or Amazon
• Watercolor paper (I recommend Hobby Lobby’s 9×12 pad. They go to 40% off every other week)
• Two flat brushes around ½ inch and a smaller ¼ inch - quality is not important. (We’ll be painting 1” squares and 1/4” rectangles so flat brushes are best)
• Watercolor paint colors in tubes
These sets have the 7 colors that we’ll be focusing on:
Amazon Set (Click)
• A mixing palette - can be a glossy plate (white is best), a pad of palette paper or a simple painters palette. The watercolor paints will dry on the palette and stay there while we use them each week - and you’ll need a space for mixing.
• Supplies needed to draw the painting charts (pencil, ruler, eraser and a light table would save you time, but it’s not required)
• Cup or glass of water
• Paper towels
• Paint chip samples available free at Walmart, Lowes and Home Depot for color matching challenges
