Japanese Patterns and Design • KAT Academy IN-PERSON June Extension

Kids’ Art Tour Academy

I’ve opened KAT Academy up to everyone for June!
Kat Academy Students will enjoy an extra month of art classes and new students can try our classes out for four weeks.

We’ll spend four weeks learning these beautiful ancient Japanese patterns that we see often even today. They’ll recreate these patterns by painting on foam board tiles as well as creating repeating fabric designs for kimonos and painted pottery designs. They’ll mix exact patterns with their variations and make original designs. Students will learn how to create an endless repeatable pattern in gorgeous flat colors, choose a limited color palette and paint their beautiful final product in acrylic.

They’ll put all of this knowledge together to dream up their own Japanese shop and design a collection of products inspired by these traditional patterns.

I’ll also have a set of fun Japanese inspired activities for those who need a break from painting or are early finishers.


June Classes: Current KAT Academy students will stay at their day and time.

  • Thursdays (ages 9-13) • 9am - 10:30am • (June 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th)

  • Fridays (ages 14-18) • 9am - 10:30am • (June 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th)

Cost: $126

(Four 1 ½ hour classes at $35 per class and a 10% discount. <3)

Supplies Included
Location: Classes will be held at Rebecca’s home classroom in Horseheads, NY 14845. Address given after checkout.


• Current Kat Academy students:

For Clarity: This is an additional and separate purchase and you will be billed when you checkout.

* This is not a continuation of your autopay subscription as the website will not allow me to change the number of months in your current subscription.

* The pricing per class ($35) is the same, however may be a different monthly total than you have been paying because the cost for KAT Academy was 32 classes divided by 9 months evenly so your monthly payment didn’t change whether we had 3, 4 or 5 classes in a month.

* Breakdown: Class for June will be $35 per class x 4 classes ($140) with 10% discount because if it had been offered at the beginning of the year, June would have been included in your autopay options. So your discounted price for the 4 classes is $126.

Enjoy a look at my past online drawing classes.

What will class be like?

Class will be a mix of art history and art appreciation coupled with art creation. We will enjoy looking at the new material and then students will then have time to create based on what they’ve learned. When I can tell some students are done working for the day, I will offer some other Japanese related activities to help them stay focused and having fun. And there’s always time for some artsy games too.

Where are classes held?

Classes are held in my peaceful home classroom in Horseheads, NY. (address given after registration).

Are supplies included?

Yes! For our June classes, all supplies are provided. Just come and enjoy!

What happens with missed classes or cancellations?

If your child misses a class, during the following class I will give any handouts and supplies needed from the previous week, spend time with them to catch them up on the concepts they missed and make sure they have everything they need to move forward in class. Refunds are not given for missed classes.

If class is cancelled due to weather or my illness, we will reschedule in-person at everyone’s convenience.

I have a Bachelors and Masters in Commercial Art from Pensacola Christian College and have been a working artist for over 20 years. I have been an exhibiting artist at West End Gallery and also exhibited in multiple group shows including 171 Cedar Arts, the Arts Council of the Twin Tiers and the Arnot Art Museum.

While I work primarily in oil, sketching and drawing are foundational skills that I still work on today and are needed no matter what art medium your child wants to pursue. I have taught ongoing school year classes to homeschoolers in my home in the past, drawing and oil painting classes to kids and adults, art appreciation and oil painting classes at 171 Cedar Arts, and I currently teach a weekly class to artists from the Elmira Regional Art Society.

KAT Academy classes are structured after art classes I took while at college and are tailored to your child’s age. After taking my classes, students are inspired to continue pursuing art for their own enjoyment and I can’t ask for a higher compliment!
